Frequently Asked Questions
Get quick answers to the most common questions about the Department of Defense SkillBridge program, including eligibility, employer participation, and how HYRE HARPER Co. can support you.
What is SkillBridge?
A Department of Defense program that lets eligible service members train with civilian employers during up
to their last 180 days of active duty. Real work experience before separation. For official details, start at the
official DoD SkillBridge site .
What is a SkillBridge third-party provider?
An intermediary — an organization that coordinates and manages SkillBridge programs for employers and
training organizations, instead of each employer building everything themselves. That’s HYRE HARPER
Co.’s role. Learn more →
Can HYRE HARPER Co. help our company participate in SkillBridge?
Yes — that’s what we do. Program development, training plans, coordination, recruiting, administration. Tell
us about your workforce needs and we’ll map out what it takes.
Does working with HYRE HARPER Co. automatically make my company a SkillBridge provider?
No — and be wary of anyone who suggests otherwise. Every employer or organization in the arrangement
needs its own approved SkillBridge MOU. We’ll help you get there, but there’s no umbrella approval.
Who supervises the SkillBridge participant?
The employer or training organization running the training. Supervision, workplace safety, training delivery —
that stays with them, always.
Does HYRE HARPER Co. decide whether a service member is eligible?
No. Participation is service-member initiated and the military approves it. Eligibility decisions are the
military’s lane, not ours.
Are service members guaranteed employment?
No. SkillBridge is training, not a job offer. Employers make their own hiring decisions, every time.
Can SkillBridge participants be charged program fees?
Service members shouldn’t be paying program-administration costs — the program’s MOU requires it.
How long can a SkillBridge opportunity last?
Up to 180 days, inside your final 180 days of service.
Am I guaranteed employment?
No. Hiring decisions belong to the participating employer and come down to qualifications, performance, and
their requirements.
Who is eligible?
Eligibility follows military and SkillBridge program requirements — check the official DoD SkillBridge site for the current criteria.
Is there a cost to participate?
see ‘Can SkillBridge participants be charged program fees?’ above
Can employers participate?
Yes. If you’re interested in military talent, talk to our team — we’ll
walk through what participation looks like for your organization.
